“Every successful minister goes through school. It’s just a matter of whether it’s in a formal educational setting with experienced instructors ready to help, or an informal one through the “school of hard knocks,” alone. I took the latter route, and I must say, if you survive, it makes a great testimony. However, I don’t recommend it!
The Lord led me to start Charis Bible College for the purpose of training people for the work of the ministry. He wanted me to take a unique approach; it had to be a combination of the rich teaching of God’s Word and practical, hands-on ministry experience.
This was modeled in the Old Testament by Elijah and Elisha with the school of the prophets and in the New Testament when Paul told Timothy to train faithful men to teach others. With this combination, I knew our graduates would be able to avoid many of the problems and hardships I encountered; they would be well prepared.
Whatever God is leading you to do, preparation is never a waste of time. Statistics show that 80% of ministers drop out of the ministry, and 80% of those who stay are on the verge of burnout. I believe the lack of preparation, spiritually, academically, and practically are at the root of these statistics.
Charis Bible College instructors have accumulated decades of experience in ministry, and their experience may very well keep you from becoming a statistic. Two years of preparation is a small price to pay for a lifetime of successful ministry.
If the Lord is speaking to you about attending Charis Bible College, call or write and request a Charis Bible College pack. It will help you in your decision. If you choose to attend, I guarantee you it will change your life and the lives of those around you forever.” – Andrew Wommack, President & Founder
How It All Began
Starting a Bible college was the last thing Andrew Wommack ever thought he would do. It’s not that he was opposed to a Bible college; it’s just that he had seen so many Bible college graduates become embarrassments to the kingdom of God. He didn’t want to have his name associated with a college that hadn’t properly prepared its students for ministry, and was convinced that academics alone wouldn’t get the job done.
However, the Lord had imprinted 2 Timothy 2:2 on Andrew’s heart. Paul was writing to Timothy and told him to take the things that he had learned and commit them to faithful men who would be able to teach others. Andrew felt frustrated in his attempts to accomplish this until 1993 when the Lord showed him a groundbreaking way to conduct a Bible college that would do more than just impart knowledge. This college would prepare men and women for ministry with a unique blend of the teaching of God’s Word and practical “on-the-job” training.
Andrew gathered together a great teaching staff that shared his vision, and Charis Bible College (originally Colorado Bible College) opened in 1994, graduating its first class of 33 in 1996. Now, there are over five hundred students attending its Colorado campus and over eight hundred more attending via Online and Correspondence classes! The vision to train others didn’t just stop with Charis Bible College of Colorado. In 1997, Charis Bible College-U.K. was founded in South Chard, England, and is presently located in Walsall. Since then, schools have been started in Russia, Northern Ireland, Belize, India, The Netherlands, S. Africa, Argentina, Switzerland and Poland. The first U.S. extension school opened in Chicago, IL, in 2003. Its success spurred the establishment of schools in Atlanta, GA; Dallas, TX; Jacksonville, FL; Gardner & Plymouth, MA; Dyer, IN, Phoenix, AZ; San Jose, CA; Raleigh-Durham, NC and Kansas City, MO.
The future of Charis is bright. Andrew is, along with many other great teachers, imparting the truth of the Gospel. The Charis staff is prepared to serve you with excellence as you seek God in your life. So, what are you doing with the next two to three years of your life? Consider using them to invest in yourself and prepare for the rest of your life.
